Amor Fati

Amor Fati is a Latin phrase translated as the "love of one's fate" - the wisdom to see that the good along with the bad, the suffering and lost is necessary for a whole life.  It is often associated Friedrich Nietzsche's "eternal recurrence", the idea that, over an infinite period of time, everything recurs infinitely. From this he developed a desire to be willing to live exactly the same life over and over for all eternity.

X-Files: The Sixth Extinction II: Amor Fati

"The Sixth Extinction II: Amor Fati" was the 2nd episode of the 7th season of the ‘The X-Files’ television series (NOV99); written by David Duchovny and Chris Carter (creator of The X-Files). ‘Amor Fati’ concluded a trilogy of episodes revolving around Fox Mulder's (Duchovny) severe reaction to an alien artifact and symbolizes his struggle to love his suffering and to embrace his journey to find Truth. Duchovny scripted Mulder's character around a 'Christ' template: Jesus’ struggle between his higher calling as the son of God and his desire towards his own humanity. Mulder's dream sequence was inspired by "The Last Temptation of Christ" (Nikos Kazantzakis, 1998). Mulder's higher calling - stopping the alien invasion - is countered by the similar desire of his own humanity.
