Sophists

A prerequisite for power in Athenian assembly (5th-century B.C.) was to speak well.  In first half of the century there appeared traveling teachers known a ‘Sophists’ which translated into “men who make you wise”.  The Sophists taught argument, rhetoric and also “how to do well in life”.
